I've been having TMJ problems for years and after years of struggle, it is way more manageable and haven't really much struggles with it since I came here for sessions. I didn't know postures (even in sleep) can affect or put pressure to your jaw. Mel is amazing and one of the main reasons I got through my jaw issues. I started treatment at the Melbourne TMJ & Facial Pain Centre in late May, with TMJ & still being treated for it, very complex, then I injured my knee & my back played up all within a short time, I was in a world of pain & have been able to be treated for all the above by my Physio. Meithi, he is so patient, understanding, he really listens & is quick to find the right treatment, I am always able to walk out of the Clinic much better than when I limped in. The reception staff are always happy, very pleasant on the phone, quick to respond via email, patient & understanding. Melanie Tam at Melbourne TMJ & Facial Pain Centre/More Than Physio has been amazing! Since early December 2022 I have had severe neck stiffness and accompanying headaches. I've had dizziness and then from the resulting stress started jaw clenching (which has produced facial pain and ear issues - ear fullness, popping, tinnitus). I had a number of scans and tests done, and saw multiple physios at other clinics, as well as other types of practitioners. I came across Melbourne TMJ & Facial Pain Centre and saw the reviews for Melanie and thought she'd be a great fit. Melanie's knowledge is comprehensive, and she is extremely thorough in her investigations of what is happening. She takes into account how you are feeling psychologically as well, and is particularly understanding and empathetic. Her treatment is very precise, and whenever I have visited her I have had great relief! She's given me a detailed program of exercises and self-massage to do between visits that deal with the neck and jaw, but also underlying problems elsewhere that have been impacting them. After so much searching I am now seeing results - my neck stiffness and pain and accompanying headaches are reducing, and I'm feeling more and more like my old self. For months I was unsure when I could return to work, drive, help out at home, engage in social activities, and get back to exercising. I can now see my way out and Melanie has been a HUGE part of this. I simply can not recommend her highly enough! THANK YOU MELANIE! Melbourne TMJ are truly amazing and i'm so glad I decided to give them a go. I've been to multiple other Physios regarding long term jaw pain but had no success. When I saw Shan Liang (my practitioner) the first time at the clinic, I was in a very bad condition with dizziness, ear ringing, face and neck pain etc. He listened earnestly to my explanation, even though my English was not native level, so I felt very comfortable. I had no idea that all my mouth, tongue, jaw (grinding and clenching) and neck issues could be diagnosed so thoroughly and treated so efficiently. I am also most grateful to Dr Donny Mandrawa from the Dental Suites in Balwyn for referring me. I've had several visits with Chris and could already feel the difference after the first consultation. I have been a patient here for many years first seeing Surbhi then Chris when Surbhi went on maternity leave. Both practitioners are extremely thorough and have been very gentle with me. I have over 21 years of chronic neck and back pain including moderately severe TMJ pain causing dislocations of the joint ( by dentists ) and on occasion whilst eating due to my Hypermobile ehlers danlos syndrome.I highly recommend this clinic for their up to date standards of practice and knowledge in their chosen specialty and all staff are incredibly knowledgeable, patient and explain things simply and slowly especially with me as I am deaf. After 4 - 5 years of constant facial pain/head aches as well as $$$$ spent on on the process of elimination merry-go-round with Dentist, ENT, Neurologist, Watson Technique specialist physio, Chiro and the list goes on I finally came across Melbourne TMJ Centre. As soon as I had my first appointment with Melanie I had the feeling I was in the right spot. Melanie not only considered my headaches, but took a complete holistic view of my lifestyle, habits, work situation, posture, sleeping etc etc. It took approx 2 - 3 appointments as well as strictly sticking to Melanie's advice when at home including being conscious of posture, keeping up with exercise, stretches etc that I really started to see results. I cannot recommend Melanie enough - she really goes above and beyond plus you feel like she is on the journey with you and just as determined to get your life back to normal without pain. It may seem like a lot of $$$ and commitment, however believe me - this is the best choice you will make to get back on top of your life without being drilled down with constant unrelenting pain.

I am having treatment at TMJ & Facial Pain Centre for my jaw pain, which i initially thought the pain was from my ear, until the ENT surgeon referred and directed me to have treatment at TMJ. The physio Melanie is well experienced and very knowledgeble and could diagnose my problem straight away after initial assessment and commenced treatment on the same day.I went for my 4th treatment session today and i am feeling 90% better with the pain totally gone and the jaw is functioning well from all prescribed exercises. And she confirmed my improvement as well. I highly recommend anyone who is suffering from jaw pain to seek treatment at this specialist center as all staff are wonderful and helpful, especially Melanie. The ladies at the reception provides fantastic customer service too.

I have been seeing Melanie for the last few months for a long standing jaw issue, which we've actually found is much more extensive than we initially thought. Melanie is great: she explained every step of the process in a very thorough initial consultation, she is reassuring, and regularly checks in to make sure the treatments aren't too painful and that i'm happy to continue. I was quite disheartened after my first appointment but she reassured me that we can work through it. She is so friendly and welcoming, as are the reception team. Highly highly recommend

I’ve been seeing Riley Lock to help with the tension and pain around my TMJ and to say it’s helped is an understatement. I saw an instant decline in the severe headaches I was getting and although the process to reduce tension and pain is slow, I can tell the difference after just a handful of sessions. I came to Melbourne TMJ & Facial Pain Centre as an emergency patient, I woke up with my jaw completely locked and could only open my mouth 1-2cm with excruciating pain. The staff were wonderful and got me in that day, Darron was not only incredibly knowledgeable but to my surprise and relief he is trauma informed and incorporates modifications to the treatment to allow for client comfort. He was able to take the time to explain each step, ask for consistent consent throughout the treatment as well remind me I had control and the option to stop at any time. As someone with CPTSD, the steps he took to ensure my comfort were extremely appreciated. Within 2 treatments my jaw was fully functional. This made a huge difference for me as I often have panic attacks and a lot of anxiety when it comes to people working around my face. I thought I was going to see improvement in my jaw but I did not expect the overall improvement in my life, my sleep is better, the tension in my neck and back is improving every day, the skills they have taught me that I implemented in my day to day routine are priceless and I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

I have had TMJ pain for over 20 years. I have seen countless dentists and specialists. I’ve tried strong painkillers, mouth splints, Botox, as well as physio/osteo/chiro. I had varying success, but within a few days the pain would come back and sometimes it would be even worse. I didn’t want to take painkillers everyday for the rest of my life, so my GP asked me to try Melbourne TMJ before exploring surgical options. I am so glad I did. After 2 months my pain is manageable and I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Every treatment brings more relief, and in between I have been taught ways to help manage the pain myself. I highly recommend Melbourne TMJ - don’t suffer anymore.

Im not one who usually leaves reviews, it takes a special effort or disaster for me to provide my feedback. And this review lands in the special effort category. After 18 months of bouncing around GPs, Specialists, Physios, Imaging centres, I finally have relief from my intense TMD jaw and ear pain. Riley has been amazing, his specialised facial massage techniques, clear yet detailed explination of what was occuring, along with targeted self help treatments, I can honestly say my discomfort is pretty much gone. Its been about 2 months since my TMD physio started, and in the last month I have felt the best I have in such a long time. Big thanks to the team.

I have waited to review so that my review could reflect the whole experience and my PHENOMENAL healing. I have had chronic TMJ disorder for over 7 years which has been expensive and very painful. I wish I had found this place earlier and saved myself so much money and pain. I have had cranial physio, splints (which are $600 a pop and which I would crack within weeks,) expensive, useless pillows, osteopathy, teeth removed and I could go on. When I saw Mel about February this year, I was in the worst place with TMJ that I had ever been in - facial pain, neck pain, head pain and structural changes to my face that affected my symmetry and confidence. I was getting headaches daily and taking a lot of pain killers. I have a high pain threshold (barely any pain after a caesarean, for reference) so I would say my pain was 7/10. After ONE visit, my facial pain was reduced by about 60%. Fast forward to today after 6 visits and my facial pain is ZERO most days. My advice is to persist...first few weeks my neck pain was very much still there even though my facial pain significantly reduced but I stuck with it and now both my neck pain and posture are significantly improved (my symmetry too) and some days I feel 100% completely normal, which I haven't felt for 7+ years! There's a lot of information provided if you don't know much about the causes of TMJ or the importance of nasal breathing, info on sleeping positions, pillows, magnesium supplements etc. (the upselling wasn't for me as I have been burned before but it wasn't too pressuring.) There's also home exercises which tbh I didn't do that much AND I STILL IMPROVED. Mel is amazing with her care and advice and honestly if I won lotto I'd just employ her exclusively 🤣 - she really is that great. I will drop my visits to once monthly now and then eventually just when needed in the future. Treatment hasn't been cheap but 40 minutes with my osteo is the same price and unfortunately osteopathy didn't help hardly at all. If you are prevaricating JUST DO IT. You will not look back. I was referred by my ENT to sort out ongoing pain in my left ear. There was no other obvious signs. He said it maybe due to holding tension in my jaw, which maybe causing referred pain in my left ear. The massaging and exercises I'm doing are working very well thanks to Riley.

I can’t recommend Chris at More Than Physio highly enough! Over the last 12 months (on and off) I’d suffered excruciating facial pain for weeks on end, unable to open my mouth to talk or eat at times, terrible brain fog and fatigue like I’d never experienced before. Accompanying those symptoms were the most intense and debilitating migraines I’ve ever had. Upon seeing my GP, I was sent for a Brain MRI which thankfully came back all clear. However, my GP was stumped and basically threw his hands in the air and told me to “go get a massage”.. that left me feeling quite hopeless. Over the next few months the symptoms dissipated until I was back to “normal”. There were a few small “flare ups” but nothing major until about 6-7 weeks ago when the symptoms returned with force. After mentioning to a relative what my symptoms were, they suggested it may be TMJ. After researching TMJ, it sounded exactly like what I was experiencing. I started searching for a Physio who specialized in treating TMJ which led me to More Than Physio. I felt so at ease with Chris straight away because he truly understood the invisible pain I was describing and reassured me I wasn’t imaging the pain. After the very first session, I could feel a difference! It made me so hopeful that Chris could help me get this condition under control. I walked away after that first session knowing I’d found the right person to treat me. I’m so grateful to Chris and the care he’s provided over the last 6 weeks or so. I’ve also been given some self massage techniques to use but also know I can go and see Chris again if I need to. Absolutely recommend!

I have been suffering of TMJ pain(jaw and facial pain, neck, dizziness etc) since December 2021. I decided to go to Melbourne TMJ after being to the osteopath for over 2 months with little results. I have been seeing Riley for 3 months now and my symptoms have greatly improved. Riley has been very professional, kind and helpful. Definitely, i recommend the clinic and Riley as therapist.

I've already recommended this clinic to several of my friends. I went to see them for headaches and jaw and face pain and earache. The owner gave me a very thorough phone consultation (at no charge) to understand my issues and propose a way forward. I was able to get an appointment the same week. I use a smart watch to track my sleep and I saw improvement on the very first night - partly from the treatment and partly just from some simple advice about how to position my body and pillows to facilitate airflow. I was impressed because the smart watch showed how much of a difference even that small adjustment made. I'm so happy with the team and really encouraged by the changes I'm already seeing. If you're having sleep or grinding/clenching issues, can absolutely recommend them. They have also given me some exercises I can do at home to relieve my pain and manage symptoms. Totally worth it.

I saw a great tmj physio called Chris here for some follow up management of my neck/jaw issues. A really wholistic practitioner who helps patients understand the connection between stress and tmj headaches and pain. He encourages independence and self-management as well as giving a very effective, targeted massage treatment
