Shan Liang
TMJ Physiotherapist (GCMM Certified)

Shan’s special interest in jaw (TMJ), facial pain and related conditions stem from being a sufferer himself. He graduated from Monash University with a Honours Degree in Physiotherapy and has been a popular and valued clinical team member of Melbourne TMJ & Facial Pain Centre™ for a number of years. Shan’s passion for continuously honing his clinical skills for best patient outcomes has seen him attending many professional development courses with some of Melbourne’s leading experts in the management of TMD (Temporomandibular Disorders). Additionally Shan has completed multiple manual therapy courses, spinal rehab courses & dry needling/acupuncture courses. To further his skills managing patients with TMD and orofacial pain, Shan has also completed the Myofocus Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy course as well a more extensive training with the world renowned Sarah Hornsby. As is the case with all Physiotherapists on our team, Shan is certified in the Goralsky Craniomandibular Method™ (GCMM) and has had extensive experience treating jaw, face and ear related conditions. He attended the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain (AACP) International Virtual Symposium in March 2020. Shan is now taking his studies to the next level and is currently completing a Masters in Orofacial Pain through the University of Sydney.

Shan highly values the importance of paying attention to detail and he embodies our practice’s passion for addressing the causes –  not just the symptoms – of these often poorly managed conditions. He is always focussed on educating his patients to understand their condition and to provide them with strategies to be able to help themselves. As a bilingual, fluent Mandarin speaker, Shan is a favourite with our clients who have a preference for communicating in Mandarin.

Outside of Shan’s work passions he is a keen exercise enthusiast and a budding photographer.
